What makes a monstrous animal?

Is it a unique species? Does it have to be some sorta freak? Or a blood thirsty, man eating, feral creature forced out of their natural habitat?

I would love your input, y'all, on what truly is a monstrous animal. ^.^

Mr. Kreepy

In my opinion, all animals are monstrous.
Every last creature on this Earth has learned to survive in an unforgiving, cruel, and dangerous world. Mother Nature is an abusive lady and she practices tough love all over the place. Without being fierce, nothing would survive. Even domesticated animals are just as wild as their wild cousins, and if humans were to just drop dead one day I can guarantee that domesticated animals would shed their "domestication" quite eagerly.
Heck, even some of the cutest, most innocent-looking creatures in nature have sharp teeth that can cause massive damage.

To go even further, I might even say: We live in a monstrous world. Every last thing on this planet is horrific if one looks deep enough.

The way I see it, a Monstrous animal would be anything capable of refuting preconceived human stereotypes about it in the some of the most unsettling ways imaginable. Simple aggression and ferocity alone does not merit the designation of ''Monstrous'' in my book. A perfect example of what I'm talkiang about would be the bottlenose dolphin which despite its popular image as a gregarious friendly animal, has been recorded attacking humans, with some of these assualts proving fatal.

I agree blow fly, they have even been recorded using baby porpoises as TOYS, until they die, then they just go find a new one. o.0

Flipper indeed. :-P

''Flipper'' is largely why people adore dolphins, much the same way that they have this fear of white sharks that has been blown out of proportion by ''Jaws''. In both cases, the entertainment industry has painted a highly inaccurate picture of both the marine predators that I have mentioned.

Yeah, that's why I love documentaries so much, they show us as complete a picture of the animal as is humanly possible.

Chaos

I think a monstrous animal is one that people are generally fearful of. Blow_fly's bottlenose dolphin example is an excellent reason as to why an animal's belligerence shouldn't be the deciding factor. However, if the animal has a reputation to match its fierce nature, I feel that it could be considered monstrous.

Regina Terra

Hmmm, what about extinct animals? I think the Velociraptor(?) is WAAAYYY more Monstrous than even the T Rex.

Personally I think it's all about perspective. Lets say someone got attacked by a snake, that animal may become a monster to that person, while another person may adore snakes. So as I said it could all just depend on a persons perspective on a certain animal.

Regina Terra

Lol, yep, I love snakes and stuff, but you can't get my sisters near them. We even have a male black widow in our garage but the darn thing is so shiny and black, absolutely gorgeous, I just can't bring myself to squash it. :-D

Widows are beautiful, we had to destroy an egg sac at our last home & it just killed me to do it but it was out side the reptile room & near the pig yard so it had to go. I think a monstrous animal is the same as an monster, whatever the locals or visitors deem frightening or unknown. Ignorance is great food for fear. I have seen this in classrooms that I have done snake or rat talks at. If it is a room of 5 year old or younger, almost every child girl or boy, wants to hold the animal while the teachers & mothers are clutching the back wall of the classroom. But if I were to go to that class when they turned 7 or 8 the girls would be acting like their mothers & clutch the wall. During that time society has taught them that girls aren't supposed to like those things & they act accordingly.

I agree with moonbaby totally and completely 100% everything is capable of being a monster. I think that it is that evil force that makes a true monster. A person who hurts a mentally/ physically  handicaped is a monster and so is someone who burns kittens whiskers for fun. I don't think anyone on here is a monster which is ironic because its monstrous. We are labled monsters because we may go against the norm by our beliefs ideas or physical apperances but a monster is something that is evil to something else

SherlawkDragon

The only real monsters are the ones inside our hearts.
"Even a dead fish can go with the flow" not to mention an UNdead one, but that's not the point... >!>;;
I am a Were-Raccoon/Dragon, that makes me feel sexy.

Aniyu

Monsters we are because we are different, some people are real monsters that is for example people who get their kicks from raping little kids then slitting their throat while they scream for their parents to help them.

What makes us monstrous?
We as humans became the most dominant creature on earth because we killed anything that stood in our path.
There is another world inside of me that you may never see and part of me is fighting this....yet part of me is gone.
