Hey everyone, <blank> is having a wendigo problem. He claims its in the field(s) behind his house and that it eats the deer that are all penned up back there. I haven't actually seen it so naturally I'm skeptical, however, its not the wendigo thats the problem but his obsession with it. I mean he's literally called me every night this week with 'updates'. I did read the monstropedia and if it was one he'd be d-e-a-d if it wanted him to be right? How can I deal with this delicately?

Tell him to grab a tent and have fun. After all since it is well fed he should be ok right?

LOL. Christ, Muerte. *<:)

I think the "obsession" part answers the question. ...Why would a wendigo be living in the fields behind someone's house? Also, Wendigos are, as Monstropedia (a source I trust, and that you have clearly cited) says, anthropophagous. Deer would not be a Wendigo's choice of food.
Your friend might actually be better off taking Muerte's advice.
Far be it from my humble position here to say anything, but I truly don't feel this belongs in the Mayday section.

Sometimes delicate isn't the way to go. This thing is almost certainly not a Wendigo. Tell your friend you don't want to hear about it anymore. Point blank no wavering. Unless something actually happens like an attack or close encounter with the creature, that warrants attention.

Agreed.

Sounds to me like a different type of predator. What kinda damage has been done to these deer? Now what you tell me will give me a good idea on what is going on.
-
Just tell him straight up. Its not a Wendigo. wendigo don't eat animals. They only eat people. Full stop. Job done.
-
Okay, I'm going to see him tomorrow and he wants to 'hunt' it. So I'm 50/50 between Angelus and Muerte *<:) . Thanks (these are all ideas i've had but its nice to hear it from someone else) and happy holidays :-) .

Just remember, if he says he has seen a large animal and the deer have been getting eaten by something, be careful. There are other predators that will eat deer and humans. Natural and supernatural.
-
If he is that concerned by it, and livestock really has been slaughtered, tell him to call the local sheriff. That's their jurisdiction.
As for hunting it, take sharpened sticks - I wouldn't like to be out in the woods at night with someone in a disturbed state of mind who was also holding a high velocity firearm.
