In the Slavic mythology they are anthropoid demons, completely covered with dark fur, inhabiting the thick, mountain forests. If a person involuntarily comes close to their dens, where they leave their children, they attack him with screams and tear him apart. Nevertheless, sometimes they can have mercy for a human child, lost in the forest, and to raise it as their own.
In the ancient Russian legends the divi lude inhabit far away, enchanting lands. Among them some are many-headed, others have dogs' heads, birds' heads and legs, wings and so on.

Domovnik!
In the Slavic mythology domovnik is the ghost of a deceased ancestor, or a forefather of the family. It was believed, that he was so attached to his home and his heirs before he died, that after death he remained to inhabit the family vault, to keep an eye on and to take care of the future generations. His main care was the maintenance of the family fire, therefore he inhabited the fireplace or the oven, stove.
The Slavs especially respected the domovnik - they saved food from the festive table, and left it beside the fireplace so he can have a meal too. Before every new initiative, the family prepared a special "owner's dish", relatives were invited, and all of them addressed questions and prayers for blessing to the great-grantfather's spirit, and after that they feasted.
It was believed, that after the help of the domovnik was obtained by prayer, that things will go well. When they moved to a new home, the proprietress took some live coals from the old fireplace, brought them to the new house and asked the home spirit to settle there. The domovnik sometimes harms, other times helps the owners, depending on whether they are respectful towards him, or depending on his mood.
It was extremely importand that the proprietess does her work well, and doesn't leave him hungry. Whenever he wanted food, he knocked in the rooms during the night, when the people were asleep. If they did not pay him attention, the domovnik turned away from them, and illnesses and unhappiness reaches them.

In the Slavic mythology the dvornik is a spirit, who inhabits the yard of the house, and who guards the gardens, barns, hen-houses, and other subsidiary buildings around the house
