KING KONG vs. GODZILLA THE WHOLE STORY

<< < (7/8) > >>

Grendelion:
Both these brutes started out I believe as symbols for something, at least their stories did.

Gojira being, in the wake of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, a walking weapon of mass destruction made purely to antagonize the atomic bomb.  In the original he wasn't mutated by radiation, he was simply a giant slumbering dinosaur god awoken by atomic testing and pissed because getting irradiated and surviving the event fricking hurt.  In fact a prof. in the film suggest studying big G instead of killing him to learn "how" he survived a direct hit with a nuke, hoping the study might help cure certain diseases and side-affects caused by massive irradiation.  He wasn't the atypical "victim-of-science" as some have come to believe, but simply mother natures response to mankind's reckless ambition.  In short, the atomic bomb pissed off mother nature, so she unleashed her nuclear pit-bull on the world.

Kong on the other hand stood for something else all together.  The classic last line of the film "It was beauty killed the beast" is one way of describing it.  His story arc mirrors the death of the brutish old-world ways by human industrialization and expansion.  Kong being this old-world God with a thing for blonde's who is kidnapped by a capitalist showman and brought from the old jungle to the new.  Fully capable of surviving the real jungle by snapping dinosaurs in half, this new urban jungle instead confuses and riles him.  There he shows the new world his raw, old-world strength before falling to his untimely death at the hands of a new kind of strength, human ingenuity.  Something you can't simply beat to death with your fist.

Bringing the two together on film was done simply for show and dough.  Both characters were stripped of their symbolism and made into entirely different characters all together in order to sustain the simple plot of two overgrown titans smashing each other with rocks and buildings and such.  Entertaining to watch, but thats about it.

BTW, for me there are various reasons why Godzilla 1998 or GINO as its called failed miserably.  Reason numero uno, the filmmakers took the "God" out of Godzilla, electing instead to make him a mutated freak of nature, instead of a pissed off symbol of nature's fury.  Reason number two, Gojira was big.  I mean big, bigger than the city he was stomping on.  GINO was made into a burrower who elects to hide in a city that is bigger than him and is thus less intimidating.  Number three, the symbolism is gone.  Irradiated children and crispy cities were replaced with irradiated piles of fish and raptor-babyzillers.  But the real cherry on top of this scoop of dog crap was the fact that GINO was made by the reckless nuclear testing of...the French!?!?

Just my thoughts on this little matter...

Regina Terra:
I'm so confused...  :?

Zodiac:
Gigan is a monster introduced in 1972. An alien cyborg monster from Nebula Space Hunter M. Gigan first appeared with King Ghidorah and has the honor of the first monster to ever actually draw blood from Godzilla. He is 212 ft tall and flies like Superman does. His wings, while there are useless it would seem. In the length of his chest he has a saw that sliced open both Godzilla and Anglias. His hands are vicious hooks, the monster was made to slice and dice, to destroy worlds. Gigan's only weakness is his cowardice. Once the tide begins to turn against him, he is the first one to retreat.

Gigan would appear three times. Twice against Godzilla and would meet his demise against the hero known as Zone Fighter.

Millennium Gigan would have a different origin and updated look. He was placed on earth 12,000 years ago and defeated by Mothra. Only to be released in the present. The first time he faced Godzilla, he was decapitated, the second time his flying blades malfunctioned due to Mothra's attack and severed his head for the last time, killing him.
