Unknown stage actor Matt Smith will replace David Tennant in Doctor Who, it has been revealed.
At 26 Smith will be the youngest ever Doctor and is a surprise choice for a role which had been hotly tipped to go to an established star.
The BBC unveiled the new Doctor - the eleventh in the long-running series - in a special Doctor Who Confidential programme tonight.

I will, but I really had my heart set on Nesbitt when he was mentioned
Plus I seen Nesbitt in the Jeykll series and was impressed
I did not think I would like Tennant but he ended up being one of my favorites

It's a surprise choice but they've made some good picks so far, so hopefully Matt Smith will work out.

The new Doctor will not be seen until 2010
The other Doctor in the x mas episode was David Morrisey, who is a pretty well know British actor, the new Doctor ...Matt Smith, is a pretty unknown actor

Still not happy about the choice, but I will give him a chance
I too, would have really liked to see David Tennat in the role for a good while

There was 2 in the episode...... David Tennant and the other one played by Morrisey, who thought he was the doctor, but we find out later in the episode his real name is Jackson Lake...here is why he thought he was the doctor...in quote

The new doctor has done barely anything acting wise....I think they've chose him cause the girls will find him good looking...its not fair....Tennant should be around for long time :-(

He doesn't seem much like The Doctor to me, I was hoping for Paterson Joseph, but if he impressed Stephen Moffat I'm sure he'll be good at least.
And no self-respecting TV producer would choose a bad actor or an actor that wouldn't fit the role just because he's good looking, especially for a role as big and demanding as The Doctor. He might be a really good actor despite not doing having too much experience.

I tend to agree with that statement. Despite his youth the producers know how important this part is, so I think they've done the best they could in regards to picking a new actor.
