Title: Inferno
Post by: TeteoInan on October 25, 2011, 08:51:38 AM
Dante Alighieri has been a topic here a few times, probably...
But this one, is my Fiance's idea.

If Hell exists, both him and I know where we're going.
His plan, is to make his way through every layer of Hell, and find his friends and family.
I guess I would do the same. Cause, what else am I gonna do while I'm there, yeah?

So, what I'd like to know... is: Where you think you would end up, if you were to end up in Hell at all?
( Be honest, too! It's no fun if you're not. )

If you're not sure of what I'm talking about, or about where you would end up... I did some searching, and have decided that this site is the best for explaining it pretty quickly:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inferno_%28Dante%29 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inferno_%28Dante%29)

Of course, I'm sure you could always find a quiz somewhere:

http://www.4degreez.com/misc/dante-inferno-test.mv (http://www.4degreez.com/misc/dante-inferno-test.mv) Is the most popular, I believe.

Oh well.... my dark days of self afflicting pain got me to here:

Quote
Seventh Level of Hell

Guarded by the Minotaur, who snarls in fury, and encircled within the river Phlegethon, filled with boiling blood, is the Seventh Level of Hell. The violent, the assasins, the tyrants, and the war-mongers lament their pitiless mischiefs in the river, while centaurs armed with bows and arrows shoot those who try to escape their punishment. The stench here is overpowering. This level is also home to the wood of the suicides- stunted and gnarled trees with twisting branches and poisoned fruit. At the time of final judgement, their bodies will hang from their branches. In those branches the Harpies, foul birdlike creatures with human faces, make their nests. Beyond the wood is scorching sand where those who committed violence against God and nature are showered with flakes of fire that rain down against their naked bodies. Blasphemers and sodomites writhe in pain, their tongues more loosed to lamentation, and out of their eyes gushes forth their woe. Usurers, who followed neither nature nor art, also share company in the Seventh Level.

Until I took the test, I may have sworn that I would have ended up in Limbo  :-P I guess I'm too Sinful and Violent.

Purgatory | Very Low
Level 1 - Limbo | Moderate
Level 2 | High
Level 3 | Moderate
Level 4 | Very Low
Level 5 | Moderate
Level 6 - The City of Dis | Very High
Level 7 | Very High
Level 8- the Malebolge | High
Level 9 - Cocytus | Low

Sixth Level of Hell - The City of Dis

You approach Satan's wretched city where you behold a wide plain surrounded by iron walls. Before you are fields full of distress and torment terrible. Burning tombs are littered about the landscape. Inside these flaming sepulchers suffer the heretics, failing to believe in God and the afterlife, who make themselves audible by doleful sighs. You will join the wicked that lie here, and will be offered no respite. The three infernal Furies stained with blood, with limbs of women and hair of serpents, dwell in this circle of Hell.

So yeah, it told me this-

Level 6 - The City of Dis

You approach Satan's wretched city where you behold a wide plain surrounded by iron walls. Before you are fields full of distress and torment terrible. Burning tombs are littered about the landscape. Inside these flaming sepulchers suffer the heretics, failing to believe in God and the afterlife, who make themselves audible by doleful sighs. You will join the wicked that lie here, and will be offered no respite. The three infernal Furies stained with blood, with limbs of women and hair of serpents, dwell in this circle of Hell.

But I also scored 'Very High' on the 8th level.

Well hey, anyone that had to suffer with the Heat... There's this spot that's a giant frozen lake that you have to cross before you get to Satan's legs...
Title: Re: Inferno
Post by: Thirteen on October 25, 2011, 12:50:39 PM
actually according to Dante the lower in the levels that you get, the colder it gets. The only exception is the sodomites are hailed upon by burning fiery rain.

It's funny because all my friends have had this discussion before. What do we do if/when we all end up in he'll? I voted for a rebellion. Why not try to take he'll for ourselves?
Title: Re: Inferno
Post by: Thirteen on October 25, 2011, 01:32:30 PM
Well see, I've read The Divine Comedy and done countless amounts of research on it. I strongly believe if there were a hell, it'd be Dante's representation.

Each circle has it's individual punishment.

Those in Limbo are the most plausible to take over Hell, but once they are judged by Minos, they usually end up in a lower circle.

The lustful are bound to the one they were lustful with in unpleasurable ties in a never ending storm.

The gluttons are laying in their own filth, immobilized by the freezing rain, and fed upon by the great Cerberus - I wouldn't mess with that doggy.

The hoarders and wasters are eternally push their heavy material goods, unable to fall free of their greed.

The angry are frozen in wrathful positions in the River Styx, while on the other side of the boiling river lies the City of Dis which is the home of the fallen angels.

Heretics are trapped in fiery tombs, free to worship god and only god.

The lovely land of the violent consists of the sands of the sodomites, the boiling blood river, the Phlegethon bound by painful burns and the centaurs, and obviously the suicide woods - unable to move for eternity, bound to their roots.

The fradulent are entrapped in the Malebolge, which are tormented by demons forced to do specific punishments due to their crime.

Finally the treacherous are trapped in ice, unable to move or speak at all.

So, there's almost no way to escape - only under very rare and specific cases.

(Citation: Dante's Inferno - Dante Algheri, and a little bit of Wiki to refresh my memory) :)

BUT, as I digress, if you want to overthrow Hell, count me in. I've already got connections. ;D haha.

Agreed!

So, there's almost no way to escape - only under very rare and specific cases.

Well, my Fiance's whole idea started because of Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle's Inferno and Escape From Hell books...
Hell is Dante's version, and beyond the Lake you can get to Satan's legs, and climb your way up. But for some reason, only one person seems to escape at a time. However, with Eternity to spare, why not try to get our loved ones and friends out?

This thought keeps dwelling in my mind about Inferno and all. If Inferno-Hell-Underworld is same as in ancient times, then we had more than one that went there and came back. Always with some sacrifice though. Preferably human.

Au contraire mon cheri!

Hell is being built and renovated as we speak (figuratively? who knows..) the City of Dis is an expanding settlement of all demon-folk. There's bound to be millions upon millions of souls residing in the pits - apartments with crooked landLords are bound to be there.

I'll have to read up on those.

I do remember reading somewhere that the only way to escape is through "Satan's Hole" Eyup. Not sure how literally that should be taken, but I believe I saw that somewhere.

And I totally agree - I'm actually in the process of a screenplay involving an escape from Hell.

Wow...my past sure did come back to haunt me on this one a bit, didn't it??? *Wolfie slinks away and hides in Den out of shame...*

Second Level of Hell -

Quote
You have come to a place mute of all light, where the wind bellows as the sea does in a tempest. This is the realm where the lustful spend eternity. Here, sinners are blown around endlessly by the unforgiving winds of unquenchable desire as punishment for their transgressions. The infernal hurricane that never rests hurtles the spirits onward in its rapine, whirling them round, and smiting, it molests them. You have betrayed reason at the behest of your appetite for pleasure, and so here you are doomed to remain. Cleopatra and Helen of Troy are two that share in your fate.

Au contraire mon cheri!

Au contraire what?  :-D Just to name one:
Quote
One tells how the fertility goddess Inanna, later known as Ishtar, descends into the kingdom of the dead, ruled by her sister Ereshkigal. Trying to overthrow Ereshkigal, Inanna is killed. The other gods convince Ereshkigal to release Inanna, but Inanna cannot leave the underworld without finding someone to take her place. She determines that her husband, Dumuzi or Tammuz, should be her substitute. Some scholars believe that this myth is related to the annual death and rebirth of vegetation.

Title: Re: Inferno

*On the contrary, my dear :]

Ah, another story of a feminine character reliant on a man. I find, if you were to truly conquer Satan, you're concurring your fears, vices, and insecurities. All that makes you impure, in my opinion. Sacrificing yourself for another is noble, wanting to be saved? That's just an old fishwife tale.
Title: Re: Inferno
Post by: Nina on November 01, 2011, 03:16:43 PM
I know what au contraire means ;)

I could dig up a story of a man that got out too, but that wasnt my point, point was, one can get out but the number of those Downunder (not Aussies xD) always has to be same.

Sacrificing yourself to save another, is a way to conquer Satan too, maybe not altogether, but in your little area of Universe, that sure counts. Cause by that you deny all that Satan seeks of you to be a good citizen of Hell. It takes out fear, ego, all insecurities are of no importance when doing a noble thing.

Just my opinion though, but in some ways im stuck in the times when nobility and honor had a meaning .....

I do remember reading somewhere that the only way to escape is through "Satan's Hole" Eyup. Not sure how literally that should be taken, but I believe I saw that somewhere.

The MANY different websites with folks' opinions, posts, theories, whatever...
PLUS the way the two books I mentioned describe it...
Is you have to climb up Satan... Starting from his foot, I guess, move up his "hairy leg" and keep going... for a Couple miles? ( haven't read either book in awhile ). You eventually make it out, through a barely visibly hole somewhere WAY up there.

But... do you make it out, onto Earth???
or...
what?

and I only lied, in that I counted a couple of my "maayyyyybes" as a No.  :-P

I figured we would lay out a plan once we get there, though obviously we would be in different levels if that is how it works. Need to get a lay of the land, a look at their forces, before deciding how to take over. Who knows? Maybe we can start a mutiny lol, did say mind games are my specialty.

I only got Dis because I don't put up with BS, and I enjoy Life's Finer Pleasures.  :-D

Hell Counsel doesn't sound bad.

Should there be a person that oversees each individual Bolgia?
Because the person that gets to be in charge of ALL of those folks, will have their hands very busy...

The last one is so cool to me, IDK why...I think the other guys wolf-like, that's probably why...the third one is still my fav. though...

But I have one question! Doesn't each of the levels of Hell ALREADY have a specific demon that already rules it (I'm pretty sure it's Asmodeus in my case), how are we, if we are to rule Hell...get past that!
Title: Re: Inferno
Post by: ViciouslyMe on November 05, 2011, 02:26:07 AM
Funny that that is what worries you and not Lucifer himself (whom we have already decided will be captured and tamed by Teteo). We will simply overthrow them, and if you don't think you can, then keep your head down until things cool down lol. Also, not to be an ass, but it is a wee bit annoying to see you quote the person you're replying to every time.

I like the 2nd and 4th, but mostly the 2nd Teteo. I on the other hand will most likely just look like me lol, I doubt I'm good enough to get an awesome look like the rest of you.

See, there are a few things here, if we're going to bring up any Semi Serious questions to this Not Entirely Serious thread...
I'm full of all sorts of spiffy little phrases today.

Overthrowing each of the Demons - I'm assuming by mentioning Asmodeus, you're sticking to general religious beliefs here, and referring to his counterpart demons that represent each of the Sins and sit as Lucifer's little helpers over each level - would be a a matter of besting them at their own game.
They can't resist a good Deal, can't resist a good challenge.

The not so serious answer would be, honey if I'm going to make Luci my pet, wouldn't I be able to just kinda ... Look at one of these guys and send them packing?

The answer to this question regarding what's described in the Poem and Books I've read, we wouldn't even really have to worry about any of the famous guys, we'd have to worry about Minos, Geryon, and these huge ass Demons in that oversee the Bolgias.
There is a name mentioned in one of the books ( Escape from Hell ) of one of them: Sword.
He makes his first appearance in Inferno.
He blocks the pathway, oversees Evil Counselors, and apparently enjoys playing Tic Tac Toe on would be challengers' flesh.
( I don't remember the last guy's name, if he even had one... Thirteen might have to help me out here )

Another "serious" point I'd like to bring up:
The punishments in Hell are anywhere from the strangely Ironic, to the downright Cruel and maybe a little overboard, but always fitting the situation that put you there in the first place...
So, on that theory... would we not continuously try to Overthrow Hell, and continuously Fail?
Defeated in a variety of manners each time, some may involve the possibility of True Death ...meaning one could simply cease to exist?
Mmm, yes.
Ponder over that one for a minute.

Okay, so back to the pictures.
So far, 2 3 & 4... so I could remove the first picture, and narrow it down even further?
And y'know what Vicious? I actually saw a picture that I thought "I think that'd be Him in Hell" so lemme see if I can find it again and I'll post it.

That's why it doesn't bother me, cuz Teo's handling it! :-P Don't worry about the second level of Hell...Me and Lex would def. have that one under control, whoever already rules it...it would be more of a power-transfer than a real fight, they'd know a good deal when they see it....Taming the Princes of Hell, cool 8-) can I sick Lex on the second-level demon sometime to help the "taming" process...that would be great fun...

And I quoted accidentally VM...if you went through what I went through the other day...the quote button and reply button are one and the same.... :(

Since I'm the last level of Hell before limbo, would I have to be the ruthless guy like that....I can be ruthless, nothing new there...

And it SO sux, I can't find any werewolf-esque pictures worthy of the second level of Hell...that's why I like Teo's last pictures...closest I've found yet...*Sighs*

Haha, awww I'm a badass. *blush*

Nah, you wouldn't have to be anything like Sword, at all.
Unless, I guess if you wanted to be.

I'll hunt around for some pics for you Arctic.

Teo is a badass and has got that under control...and no-one has to worry about the second level...too bad the demon who rules there isn't a demon girl...that would be great fun *smirk, shifty wolf eyes*, but since it's a guy demon...at least Lex will get to "tame" him...She'd have fun with that! :-P

Unless, I guess if you wanted to be.

Nah, I would get to be plenty ruthless in ruling my own level of Hell, I'm good...we should give that title to Nina, she'd prolly have altogether too much fun with that!

I'll hunt around for some pics for you Arctic.
Thanks Teo! I had no luck, but computers/net are not my specialty...*Hugs*

mine never changes...

The Dante's Inferno Test has banished you to the Second Level of Hell!

Here is how you matched up against all the levels:
Level | Score
Purgatory | High
Level 1 - Limbo | High
Level 2 | Very High
Level 3 | Low
Level 4 | Very Low
Level 5 | Very Low
Level 6 - The City of Dis | Very Low
Level 7 | Moderate
Level 8- the Malebolge | Moderate
Level 9 - Cocytus | Very Low

Level descriptions: http://www.4degreez.com/misc/dante-inferno-information.html (http://www.4degreez.com/misc/dante-inferno-information.html)
Take the test: http://www.4degreez.com/misc/dante-inferno-test.mv (http://www.4degreez.com/misc/dante-inferno-test.mv)

I'll always have hedonistic tendencies and this is my favorite fall classic

jordyn, u and I must be pretty similiar, I took it again to avoid any variables (aka, if I felt more "lusty" or "violent" that day XD)

I'm gonna repost, but like u did...seems more logical to do it that way I guess...

Purgatory - Very Low
Limbo - Very Low
Level 2 - Very High
Level 3 - Very Low
Level 4 - Very Low
Level 5 - Moderate
Level 6 - Very Low
Level 7 - Very High
Level 8 - Moderate
Level 9 - Very Low

I'd be with the "Virtuous Pagans" in limbo, but Wolfie doesn't put up with crap, is a Wiccan and is one lusty furball, so that's not really gonna happen XD

I'm really surprised at how violent I am, I didn't think I was that bad...wow O.O

I have hedonistic tendencies as well...I used to have a shirt that Lex made me in Print Shop Class in HS that says "Music...Sex...and Fashion!" and had a photo-print of me on it with my Sunglasses and Dre Beats on...and this described my Sophomore and Junior Years pretty well, only my GF could put it so nicely, I guess :-P

I've never experienced serious violent tendencies, perhaps that's why some of my writings can be rather brutal? *shrugs

thought out expression rather than emotional explosion.  :)

My emotional explosions always end up causing me more trouble than if i just held my tongue.

I write a lot of violent music and I draw some gory and, shall we say NC-17 stuff...so I channel the energy creatively too...I'm starting to get into Dance too as it combines art and exercise, both of which calm my inner wolf... :)

It's always more trouble than just holding your tongue...but being a Were, that is almost easier said than done

Said it before, will say it again, I keep my homicidal tenancies on a leash. Only in severe situations have I ever let it leak out, and it is not pleasant when it does. Anger, eh, I just get some solitude when I start getting angry and that helps me cool off.

Back to topic, I'm not so sure it's good to retake tests like this (though not saying it's a serious test), always thought it's best to go with your first results. Anything after won't come out true (in my opinion again) because then you're unconsciously choosing the answers for the results you want.

Many of you know that V and I BOTH do that (keep homicidal rage under control) I've almost killed 3 people in blind M-shifted rages before...not very pretty... *Slinks away and hides in Den, is ashamed wolf*

A lot of violent songs and drawings get created when I'm mad (and control it)...so I try and channel my rage in a creative fashion (or, at least a non-destructive fashion) :-D

I always thought that people should take them twice, on different days, to avoid the "oh, I was hornier than normal that day" or "some heartless pr*ck pissed me off today* factor...But I can see your point of view V, but I already know my past and what I do, so the answers would be the same regardless on my part...

I kind of already knew what level I was before I even took the test anyway, I know what I do and where it would get me, as I have read "Inferno" already anyway...
