Title: Prediction in dreams?
Post by: Raksha on December 04, 2010, 04:29:27 PM
Well, I can't find a better place for this, but feel free to move it if you can.

For as long as i can remember, i've never had any dreams about anything. Until recently.
I had a near-death experience lately (flat-lined in the operating room), and since then i've had some very interesting dreams. Not least because they seem to be predictions about the near future.

The smallest example of this: I dreamt i was sitting on the sofa with my flatmate smoking a cigarette, and he starts blowing smoke rings (something he rarely does).
Next day it happens, just like i saw in the dream. Could be coincidence.
Another example: I dream i'm sitting on a bench in the park, again smoking a cigarette, and a guy with a nose piercing a a mohawk asks me for a light.
Next day it happens, just like the dream. I'm all for calling coincidence, but that's taking the p*ss surely?

I'm thinking the NDE caused this. The only problem being, i don't know what the hell 'this' is.

If anyone has any ideas or input however small, it would be greatly appreciated.

It's possible that an NDE could unlock some dorment clairvoyance ability in your mind.

It's also possible that the trauma caused by the NDE resulted in you having several instances of deja vu.

In either case, I don't really see the problem here. In one instance, you receive a very potent gift and the other is a relatively minor problem (I hope) that will go away.

When you were in the O.R., it didn't have anything to do with the brain did it? Yes or no is fine if you don't want to talk about it.

There are many recorded cases where supernatural abilities manifested after a person went through an NDE. Which means in theory there should be plenty of help and numerous sources of information out there to support you.

Maybe it would be worth keeping a dream diary for a while to see if there are any other correlations between your dreams and real life? For instance, maybe longer more complex events are played out over a series of dreams or will take place weeks, months or even years after you had the dream. The reason behind this would be to better understand whether a negative experience in your dreams is likely to come true (and to what extent) and also when this event is most likely to take place. This would be a useful resource to have even if the ability wanes after a short time. You know, just in case.

If you're looking to maybe strengthen your ability, recording such patterns could also help you understand maybe what could be inhibiting this part of your mind. For instance, you could find over time that when you're in a relationship the dreams lessen.

There is an interesting human phenomenon that takes place when a person stumbles or creates for themselves an advantage over other people which makes their life easier. They more often than not subconsciously seek to sustain it. For instance, the ability to instantly add any number together could guide your career path which in turn would affect other spheres of your life (family, social, etc) inadvertently. It's up to you how much of your life you want to devote to predicting the future and controlling this ability. Never let anyone else try and make that decision for you as they could never experience or live with it in the same way that you can. Instead, by understanding what will inhibit it, you can consciously control how strong it becomes.

Dragon: No, I got on the wrong end of a baseball bat and a rib decided to puncture on of my lungs. How clumsy of me >.>

Ryobi: I think keeping a dream diary would be a good idea. I think i want to try and develop it, but it's still freaking me out a little lol. I think i'm going to keep it to myself, or at least be very selective in who i tell.

Thank you both for the great advice, at least i know i can use it (maybe for crime fighting? xD). You guys seem pretty well informed, is there any reading material you'd suggest? I'll look myself, but i probably won't be able to tell what's for real and what's a load of nonsense. Thanks again guys!

If I come across anything that's pure gold I'll let you know but whatever you do find, once you test it out, you'll probably work out pretty quick whether it's bogus or not.

With dreams a lot of it is personal so anything to do with what they may mean other than predictions of the future you'll have to work out yourself most likely. Maybe looking into the reasons people think it happens or looking at more ways of harnessing it. I hear lucid dreaming is a good way of sifting through the flow of information that your subconscious puts out during a dream.

One question: have you ever tried astral dreaming? Not you Ry, but at Raksha. Dreams are the reality we cannot see in this reality.Being close to death (or in it in your case) can show people realms that this dimension is uncapable of. Reality? Hmmmm....  E=mc2

all i wanted to say....

I'll do some reading on the subject, thanks for the suggestion.
