Title: How to remember important dreams
Post by: Petling on September 03, 2008, 08:20:06 AM
Okay, any body know how to help me here? Cuz I just had a really important dream last night, & most of my friends from here in Monstrous where in it. But all I can remember about it is that we were all on some sort of a pirate ship, & I killed one of you cuz you were an evil magician who had kept my sister as some sorta sex slave all of her life. :-P

That was, like, only the last quarter of the dream, a ton of shyt happened that I can't remember before I even got on that ship. :?

& I also just got done talking with the needs, & apparently I had some sort of vision of him while in my dream. e was wearing the exact same clothes in my dream as he was IRL yesterday. & was sharpening a kopesh, a sword that he was thinking of getting.

Now I really wish I could remember what the rest of the dream was. :x

Okay, I have read of MANY different ways to remember dreams.  I'll write what I remember off the top of my head, then I will run to my favorite sites and reread the others.

One really good idea is to meditate in a quiet or peaceful area and let your mind play things through.  Depending on who you are and what you do, if you have your problem in the back of your mind, your meditation should bring it to the front.  Quietly sort out your memories and your thoughts and just go at it.  If your mind is as active as mine, there will be no problem in that.

If you being to write down every detail that you remember in a dream, you may realize you remember more than you first thought.  Try that, almost like brainstorming.  It doesn't have to be structured, just go with it.

The other things are magick related and involve herbs and stones and the like.  If you want to use that quartz you have, Petpet, it may help in your remembering.  I will look around and maybe post a thread about dream-enhancing materials if there is not already one.

Thank you!!! I have tried writing things down, right after I wake up, but even then, it's almost like hitting writer's block. I have a vague idea of what happened, but I can't seem to make it become clear enough to gain any material from it.

I won't make an official Dream Magick Items thread until I have one organized in my own Book of Shadows, but what I DO know is that Amethyst is a good promoter of dreams and psychism and the like.  I'm constantly surrounded by it as it is my birth stone and my favorite gem (Necklaces, earrings, rings, natural amethyst, polished amethyst, my pretty engagement ring  :-D).  That may be why I have so many vivid dreams?

And if someone else wants to make that thread, I can just copy yours and paste it into my notebook :-D *<:)

Hmmm, amethyst, I'll remember that the next time I go shopping for jewelry. I definitely need to get some. :-D

As a supporter of entheogens and ethnic botanicals (shamanic hallucinogenic drugs for those who don't like to gloss things over with terms that sound more proper), I feel it necessary to suggest you more concrete ways to remember, above just crystals and self-hypnotism.

I am a fan of ayahuasca, but I have a little bit of experience with hallucinogens, so I wouldn't suggest that at all. If you don't know what you're doing, taking it is like instantly being teleported into some prehistoric jungle where everything is trying to chase you and eat you. It's terrifying.
Peyote, on the other hand, can be much milder than that (just remember that a bad trip will result in you stripping off all your clothes and thinking you're an animal. Many strange adventures and calls to the police by your neighbors may follow). It can help your mind open up and remember things like forgotten dreams.

My friend was supposed to give me the recipe for this oil she uses to have her spiritual hallucinations, but she never did.  It made me sad...

I don't know if I would have used it, though.  I just like gathering information.  Another obsession to add to the obsession thread!!!! *Dashes off*

Uhhhhhhhh, no thank you needs. O_O;

I kind of figured you wouldn't want to take that route. I don't blame you, it's not for everyone...

My next suggestion would have to be self-hypnosis, then. I suggest doing a Google search for it so that perhaps you could find instructions or a how-to website.

If I can manage to do something like self-hypnosis without it failing on an epic level, I think you can too.

I want to know about this self-hypnosis stuff.  It may come in handy

I wonder if that could help with my fear of blood and stuff... :?

Usually when I wake up knowing I've had a dream, I can't remember a damn thing about it. But throughout my day, I think about it and write things down as they come to me. Then re-reading it, I remember more things to add. Just zone out, Pet. It's relaxing and it lets your mind wander on it's own and you'll come up with things..

When i want to remember a dream I just try to remember what happened between the night before and the moment I woke up. It usually works.
