Hoodoo is a derivative of voodoo, but since it is a mixture of Voodoo, Native American practices and European black magic it is easier for me to understand.  Take the most interesting of a few, mix them together, and enjoy.  Also, spells cast are more effective when ones understanding and beliefs are strongest.  I don't have any African American blood in me, but I do have European and Native American meaning that I can poor more of myself into it.

Ill check into that Hoodoo stuff. It would probably work beter for me too since I have European and Native American blood.

Ive heard the word hoodoo before, but around here people use it like, to hoodoo someone is to screw them out of something.

didnt know it was an actual type of magic

we need someone african american and native american Im here Im here (waves his hand ecstaticly)
hoodoo is very similiar to where im from we call rootwork which is basically like folk magic using herbs and bones and such to effect a spell were as vodoun includes worshipping the orisha or loa
which are the gods of the vodoun pantheon who are invoked for different things love, sex, money, death e.t.c. most real vodoun or hoodoo spells are called tricks or atleast those that require a ritual while vodoun is a mix of native american, european, and african magics due to the severe and long period of segregation due to slavery vodoun has remained a pretty intact miniature version of ifa which is the name of the spiritual works practiced in africa which in the americas became voodoo.  that being so most of the influences from european and native american systems of magic is seen in the use of herbs native to america and the use of
veves and circles similiar to the magic circles penttagrams and hexagrams used in european magic to summon entitiys and deities but much more simplified and often requiring curios which is the word used for auspicious herbs and objects which contain magical power.

well im with you on that oniso im willing to bet aanything hes merely confused and referred to a voodoo practitioner as a gris-gris and Muerte cultural influence is the name of the game : )
basically in new orleans the large amount of french sorcerers re established sorcery along with the african sorcery which took on a heavily shamnistic view in america due to numerous contributions from the native americans. whereas haitian voodoo while not only stemming from a entirely different part of africa has less shamanistic qualities of voodoo and more of a sorcerer appeal.
