What does it mean when one can not remember their dreams since early childhood? I used to have one reoccurring dream when I was a child but ever since I had that dream I don't remember any others. It's kind of weird. I still remember that dream for the most part that I used to have. However, since it was so long ago it could have been just my imagination when I was sleeping. If you would like I could post that dream in as much detail as I can remember. But I'm not sure if that would give any clues as to why I don't remember any of my dreams now. Any help would be appreciated. Knowing my luck though it's probably something silly and easily remedied. :)

It means exactly what it is, you can not remember your dreams.
Why  look for meanings other than how things are?

The reasons why are as numerous as stars in the sky. Knowing these reasons doesnt really help much.
For example it could mean that your liver yin energy may be stagnant. See what i mean? Knowing this doesnt really help you does it?

If you want to remember your dreams exert some effort, keep up this effort.
The secret IS this silly and as EASILY REMEDIED as this.

I knew it was something like that. Thank you :) But just how long should I exert my effort? I've been trying to remember them for 3 years, and still nothing has changed. I'll keep trying though.

To be honest, a suggestion my Mom said on the phone just now.

That's the thing though, there is nothing that lingers. I feel nothing when I wake, except the urge to go right back to sleep, rarely do I feel like I should actually get up. Today was on of those rare up and outta bed days.

Well you won't always dream. I don't dream much anymore. Maybe your subconscious actually stays in it's little ball/corner and lets you sleep?

chaoticpsyche

maybe, but i doubt that, for some reason I know I'm dreaming I just don't know what it is and when I do wake up I don't feel anything except that I've forgotten something, even though that feeling is growing rare.

HOORAY!!!!

keep chasing down those dreams.

Just focus your will on remembering more and more of them. Never give up.

Pretty much everything will open up if you stay relentless in your pursuit.

If you have a few days before the next dream, dont worry. Stay patient. Keep quietly at it.

Oh I plan on it! I want to know what it is I am dreaming.. It was kind of weird I remember swords.... That's it... hmmm maybe I should go and play with my swords later tonight...

So I figured something out, when I listen to classical music to fall asleep I can't remember my dreams, however, if I don't I remember them just fine. However, I can't seem to get a good nights sleep without listening to the music. But at least I think I've found the cause to my not remembering of dreams.

Arcane Artifice

The music acts as interference, I've tried to do sleep with music, and found myself incapable of dreaming.
I suppose I should ask if you listen to the music while you attempt to sleep and not before you sleep.

  • Should you be listening to the music while you try to sleep, it will produce interference, this interference messes with the second stage of sleep. The second stage is when you are sleep but still easily awakened. With the music, considering it's classical, there are parts where the music can be powerful, or calming. Those transitions in sound intensity can keep you from stage 3 and 4 of sleep.
  • Should you manage to fall into stage 3(4) and achieve REM sleep, the problem could be related with your waking. I find that unless the dream is focused on, like Bill said, it could be lost, and potentially require more effort to recall. This could be harder if you awaken to music, seeing as the sound could cause sudden shifts of focus from the dream, to the sound that is penetrating your thoughts.

Essentially I believe the music is to blame, if it helps you get to sleep that is understandable, but if you wish to dream I would try finding another solution so that your thoughts, and dreams aren't impeded.

I know the music acts as interference. I figured that out a couple months ago, but if I look back into the years I was in the navy, and I didn't have classical music to listen to, I still couldn't remember my dreams then either. I have realized that the music is detrimental to my sleep in someways, however, it puts me to sleep faster than anything I know, with out the music I'm quick to awaken at the smallest sound, for the most part.. With the music, the only thing that will wake me up is my alarm clock and it's a really annoying buzzer beeping thing.

I was just curious as to why I couldn't remember them, it's not like I really need to know what they are. I just happened to be curious. As soon as I can start sleeping like a rock without music, then I'll stop listening to it, however, I'm sure it'll be a while before that will happen.
