Well yeah, of course there's a difference. The main being that 'religious' people push there views on others and see to it to judge them based on what they don't like, or rather what they have decided is blasphemous.

Even that's not it. We're pushing it all on "religion" - the Dalai Lama put it very well. Every religion is meant to help the people they were specifically made for attain the same peace. I would say that it's the people, not the religion-versus-faith issue, who are so insecure about their own lives that they force their personal beliefs on others and press it on their religion. All that religions are... are organized methods of prayer. I don't think they're necessary. More to the point, their rituals are often merely a waste of time - and that isn't to be rude to any one religion or person; it's just that many religious rituals are done for the sake of show. Again, a people problem. Religions don't have to be about God or a theism; fandoms (big fan bases) for TV shows, for example, are all about obsessing over the characters and cast and ridiculing all those who do not accept. Eh.

So, yes, there is a major difference - it has a lot to do with being vocal and being silent. But the biggest difference is this: that religion is an organized arena, with rules and regulations, and faith is a personal choice.

The thing is, in my own opinion anyway, if Christ were to return today I think he would be a little more than slightly pissed at most of his church going followers. I think its those who study his works in search of understanding, perhaps not understanding of everything, but in search of understanding of the man he was, what he represented and stood for,are the ones who he would be proud of.

Most religious leaders study the bible only to twist the words there in to serve there own purpose. Many of them dont care what the meaning of those words truly are, only about how they can use them.

Again, a people problem - and one that is very big. And disgusting. :/

This is the end of my ramble/rant. Do with it as you please.

Just to clear things, I didn't say it was the only difference. There are many, and I was just stating what I consider to be the (maybe just a) main one. And of course people are the problem, I don't think anyone will argue that point. As to you saying that some ceremonies being merely for show, I think the same point could be made of any symbols or materials used in any ceremonies (religious and not). I know many of you have your methods of doing certain things (whether it be protection or other), and some of them differ, even if they reach pretty much the same (or similar) results. Those too would fall under the same category as the religious ceremonies (most at the very least).

Before you say it Teteo, yes I know I'm not being very kind here. But truth be told, even though AWBrielle said in her post 'and that isn't to be rude', I still see it as insulting to those that have their religions and actually don't act like the fanatics they would be labeled as.

their rituals are often merely a waste of time

I would disagree on this one. EVERY ritual, be it even that one that looks like a waste of time, has its power. Add masses of chanting innocents, a few bell frequencies, and just one guy that knows what he is doing to focus... voila...

Prayer and ritual have their power. Where that power comes from is debatable. Could be the ritual itself, the will of the people involved or a higher power. Its a question that can be answered 1000 ways, and perhaps none of those ways are entirley true or false. One thing Ive learned over the years is that there is more than one truth when it comes to this sort of thing.

Aww, you know me so well.
Actually, I was going to leave this whole thing alone.
I said my bit earlier, and don't really have much more to add to it that other people aren't already saying...

Ah, I see what I was saying got misinterpreted (my fault, as I wrote it incorrectly, so I really do apologize for offending you all - I do partake in rituals, myself, therefore it may have come off as hypocritical and incredibly insensitive. I apologize.); what I meant to say was that rituals (and bear with me, here, as there are different types of rituals, so if you follow my example, you should be able to understand what I mean) as they are seen in the modern world by the general assembly (as well as religious rules) are often done in such ways as they are unnecessary. For example; one Christian, as we have been using as an example, may do one thing at his or her mass, and do the complete opposite outside of the mass, thus rendering the ritual useless for their personal benefit. This does not apply to all Christians, but to the one in particular. It's true for all religions and belief systems. Does that make more sense than what I wrote before?

Again, I apologize. I should read over what I write out loud before I post, so as to see if it makes sense in the way that I want it to.

The more you keep pushing people away the less help you'll get towards the end. Call me arrogant, call me stubborn, beat me as bad as you want, I still wont quit and I damn sure wont back down.

Nina

so I really do apologize for offending you

I havent found myself offended by anything you said. Just stated an opinion.
